We will announce the new Scarlet and Epic programs on Thursday Nov. 13th.
I want to say that no one has any idea how incredible this announcement will be. Call this hype… please. I am quite sure that the announcement will be called a “scam”. Should be a lot of fun to hear the reactions. I can’t wait….
Jarred is buying extra server bandwidth… we will post specs and renders for people to email around. This makes the RED ONE announcement seem small by comparison.
Some of my friends and fellow Red-watchers thought that Red’s announcing they were revising Scarlet and Epic meant that Red was having problems. Or feeling pressure from competition. I said “no”, Red is just going to up the specs and announce even better versions of Scarlet and Epic. And I truly believe this will be so. Perhaps Scarlet with a full-size sensor so we can do interchangeable normal 35mm lenses? Or perhaps a slightly smaller sized sensor so we can use the new Four-Thirds lenses?
On Epic, I’m not sure. The main reason I’m going to upgrade to Epic is that it’s smaller and weighs 6 pounds (instead of Red’s 12 pounds). But I’ll take 6K (or 8K)? : ) and 120 fps too.
