Here’s a update from Red on development of new cameras and the RedRay drive (capable of playing 4K):
What a wild ride it is with the economy. Partners are falling down (going bankrupt), the economy is in the tank, many people are not taking delivery of the cameras they put down deposits on… generally very bleak.
On the other hand, more RED ONEs are going out the door faster than ever before (new customers). RED Ray prototype footage looks FANTASTIC. The aluminum Scarlet and Epic prototypes look INCREDIBLE. The mechanical and electronic connections are better than I had dreamed they could be.
So what’s the worry? ASIC development, Monstro development setbacks (minor but irritating), many subs that are buckling under the pressure of the economy… standard stuff.
These are very rough times in case you haven’t noticed. As self-contained as we are at RED, we do rely on some outside sources. It is incredible how messed up the rest of the world is right now. We will work through all of the problems we face (we always do), but I feel a bit sad for how many others are at such peril these days. You read about it in the newspaper, we see it 1st hand.
Be careful with your spending. Invest only in things you know can make you money. This economic situation will not correct itself for a few years (not weeks or months).
Just so you know…
Jim
