Jim Jannard just posted this photo of the new Epic/Scarlet on reduser.net. Top 5 reasons I’m psyched and want to trade in my Red for one an Epic (Epic X, S35):
- Smaller and lighter, and more ergonomic for handheld
- Super speedy bootup time (2 seconds; this will make an amazing difference, e.g., on a production in a remote region I’m working on, where our 2 Reds are on 6-7 hours per day poised and ready to shoot–necessitating lots of work, conscientiousness and gear (generator + UPS) to keep batteries charged.)
- 5K, instead of 4K
- Overcranking to 125fps (at 4K; 100fps at 5K)
- Extra stop of dynamic range
More photos of prototypes coming this week, apparently. Very cool… Only fly in the ointment–there’s been a bit of delay due to the economic downturn (so seems we won’t get our Epics until Dec ’09 or early ’10, according to educated guesses on reduser.net).
